Welcome to the TinyTalk classes of
Katherine Preston
Having enjoyed TinyTalk classes as a parent and
signed with my own two babies, I wanted to help other families in my area benefit in the same way.
My daughter was 3 months old when we started TinyTalk classes. This gave me a chance to learn many of the key signs myself and to incorporate them into our home routines before Lorna was actually able to sign to me. She started signing before she was 7 months though and I felt that starting early was worthwhile for us.
As I had already signed with Lorna, I started signing to my son, Cameron, as soon as he was focusing on me at a few weeks old. He was just over 5 months old when I began taking him to TinyTalk classes but was signing himself within a month of that.
I have found it really fulfilling to understand him from such an early age. Not only could he communicate to me that he wanted milk, food, a drink, or bed but I also got very early insights into what else he was aware of; he signed 'windy' to me when the trolley was stopped under the air-conditioning unit in a shop, and for months responded to my enquiries about his dirty nappies by signing 'dog'; jokingly trying to shift the blame for the smell!!!

Meet my Mini Teacher, Sarah Smith
Hello!
I'm Sarah and I have joined Katherine as one of your teachers for TinyTalk Mole Valley. I will be teaching in the Horley area. I am mum to Ellie who is two years old.
I started TinyTalk with Ellie when she was just 10 weeks old. I was a first time mum and Katherine's TinyTalk classes were the first baby class we tried. I love how the classes not only have signing but other aspects including singing and sensory elements. It gave the opportunity for both Ellie and me to learn a new skill as well as a new way for us to communicate. My mum even came to some of the classes too!
I don't think I could emphasise how beneficial TinyTalk classes have been for us. Ellie has been able to communicate her needs from a very early age and has also been great with her manners. Whilst we don't use signing as much now she still signs 'please' and 'thank you' when saying these phrases. I really do think that signing has contributed to her advanced vocabulary as well as reducing her frustration and she has been a talkative, bubbly little girl ever since. She has certainly dispelled the myth that signing delays speech.
When I returned to work full time after my maternity leave, I really missed spending time with Ellie, and made the decision that I wanted to work part time. I am passionate about how great TinyTalk has been for our family and decided that I wanted to give other families the opportunity to develop a lifelong skill as well as building a wonderful relationship with their little ones.

Directions:If you can reach the roundabout where the A24 and A25 cross that seems a good place to start a description. The roundabout has a large shiny metal cockerel on it - easy to know if you are in the right place!
From this round-about head towards the centre of Dorking, past 'Dorking Halls' on your left and the octagonal 'Pippbrook' District Council buildings on your right. Carry straight on at the traffic lights just after this; along the High Street.
You will come to a further set of lights where there is a 'hairpin' of roads ahead of you - you have no choice here but to bear left. You will soon see Waitrose up ahead of you on the right and you need to take the right turn immediately past Waitrose. You will then see the church on your left and will need to find parking.
