As I write this, I am just weeks away from launching my very first Tiny Talk Mid Essex baby signing classes around Maldon, Witham, Braintree and their surrounding villages!
What a weird old 15 months it has been! Two years ago, I was in a long established career as airline cabin crew. When Covid struck,
I was pregnant with my second baby, Scarlett, who was born in May 2020... my little lockdown bundle of hope. Like many parents, I struggled through what was essentially a year at home with her - mixed in with home-schooling my four year old son Seth when the schools closed.
My one shining light of the week was our Tiny Talk online class with the lovely Kate at TinyTalk Colchester & Tendring. Scarlett and I sang songs together, played with our toys, learnt a skill and we bonded in a way that we just couldn't do alone in our front room.
I started learning baby signing when Seth was 6 months old and was absolutely blown away by how amazing the experience of being able to talk to your yet-to-be verbal baby was. My mum was not so sure.... "Surely sign language will deter him from speaking?". It took one family holiday when he was 14 months old for her to put her hands up and say those magic words, "You were absolutely right. This baby signing really works!"
Like most siblings, my two children are so different... I soon realised how invaluable baby sign language was going to be again, as Scarlett is what I'd call a screamer! I've put in lots of effort to teach her whilst being a stuck at home mum, and she has completely blown me away. She is 13 months old and will currently sign multiple new words each day. To see it is to believe it.
During the pandemic, I made the big decision to take redundancy and applied for a role as a TinyTalk teacher. Since then, I have enjoyed absorbing myself in the world of baby sign and spent my evenings studying BSL to get fully prepared to teach.
I'm feeling so lucky to have found my next path, doing something I am so incredibly passionate about and getting to be surrounded by gorgeous babies every day!
I admit that I found attending baby classes really difficult with my son. I understand just how daunting the idea can be. One of the reasons I wanted to start this new career was to be there for those struggling. I felt lonely, bored and (in all honesty) a little unhappy with the reality of maternity leave.
I absolutely cannot wait to give you all an inclusive, warm and friendly space. A place where you can learn a skill and a total parent hack that will make your life easier over these difficult early years.
So come and join me for a fun and educational award winning baby class which offers total value for money, a whole hour of company and a cuppa outside of your four walls. Come and meet a group of people wanting to raise their little humans the best way they can.
