Before I became a TinyTalk Teacher, I was a Nursery Nurse working within the Special Educational Needs (SEN) field and with children on the Autistic Spectrum. Being part of a child’s development has always been very rewarding, and having the chance to combine this with my love of BSL was an opportunity too good to miss.

I first attended a TinyTalk class when my oldest son was 6 months old. He found the classes sooooo much fun and loved all the singing and signing. His first signs were coat and biscuit and as his speech developed I loved that he continued to sign as he spoke the words. He is now at primary school and still enjoys learning new signs – and showing them off to his teachers and friends in school. With my son now growing up, I proudly get to teach the classes that we both enjoyed and see the smiles on other babies faces – and their mum’s and dad’s too. My newest baby Ollie attends classes with me and at 3 weeks old signed milk. I have 2 step daughters who are both teenagers.

The structured classes are themed each week, from food to pets to bed routines and more, and I teach the relevant signs for that theme through fun activities. We sing, we play games and have lots of fun with puppets and instruments to actively engage the whole class. And after half an hour of fun, there’s a chance for the grown ups to have a chat over a cuppa, plus a biscuit or two. So lots of fun for the babies, and a great place to meet other mums and dads too!
