Welcome to TinyTalk Preston and Surrounding Areas!
Hi, I'm Kathryn and have 2 little ones of my own. Before becoming a TinyTalk teacher, I had a passion for communicating with the deaf and progressed through my levels (and lots of exams! ) to become Level 6 qualified in British Sign Language.
Throughout my day, I will always be signing what I am saying without realising and through this, I have seen how powerful and wonderful baby signing can be.
Early years are so important and I always make sure I speak and explain everything to my children and along with signing the key words, they have picked up so many signs. My eldest at 9 months could tell me when he was sad or wanted 'more' food or 'water'. This eased his frustration and the look on his face when I understood him was just delighful! At age 4, before school, he is a real chatterbox and I do believe it is because of that early communication!
He will now ask me to sign different words and is always excited to show these to his brother, who at 12 months, before his first words, can tell me he wants his 'milk', a 'drink' or has had enough. The bond between brothers through signing has been beautiful and we have less tears!
At our TinyTalk classes, I aim to support you to communicate with your child through BSL signs, even before they can speak to ease those tantrums and frustrations and increase bonds between you. We have different themes each week with lots of signing, singing, musical instruments and a sensory activity to support development. Then after all that, children have the opportunity of free-play with provided toys and parents, grandparents, carers can enjoy a hot brew and biscuit and experience a great social and support network with other families. I know how hard it can be to even get out the door sometimes, and often having a conversation with others who are in the same stage of life as you is vital to our functioning as parents!

Children:Oliver, aged 5; Matthew, aged 1
Location:Preston, Lancashire
Favourite Sign:Aeroplane; so simple but makes a walk much more exciting for my children
Qualifications:Level 6 in British Sign Language (the same as a Bachelor's degree!)
Favourite Film:Anything with some good songs in them
Pet Hate:People who park in a Parent & Child bay without a child!
Secret Passion:Anything 1940s including the music of that time & the incredible Battle of Britain Memorial Flight
I most admire:Those who have so much going on in their life but still make time to check in on other people
I love baby signing because:It's utterly incredible when you respond to your baby signing and they give you that incredible smile! I want more people to experience that feeling!
