Welcome to the TinyTalk classes of
Fiona Cotterill
Hello! My name is Fiona and I'm your local TinyTalk teacher for Kidderminster, Stourport on Severn and Bridgnorth. I am so excited to introduce you to the world of TinyTalk Baby Signing. Communication is at the heart of what we do. Signing enriches your parent and baby bond and develops amazing communication. Seeing the realisation on your child’s face when you understand what they are trying to communicate is the most rewarding feeling ever! No more frustration and crying, you have signing!
I first discovered baby signing when I attended TinyTalk classes with my daughter Celeste. We started classes when she was just 6 weeks old and by the time she was 9 months old we had numerous signs under our belts enabling us to communicate when she was wanting ‘milk’ or ‘food’, if she wanted ‘more’ or if she was ‘all done’, helping her understand if she needed ‘medicine’ or simply the world around her when out for a walk.
Now a confident 3 year old with over 200 signs, she has signed and talked non-stop. Her speech, vocabulary and reading skills are already far beyond her years and I truly believe this is down to signing and the early ability to communicate. My own TinyTalk journey continues with my youngest daughter, Lyra, who is already communicating through signing with her sister ‘teaching’ her at every opportunity she gets!
What can you expect from my classes?
Everyone is welcome at our award-winning baby signing classes, which are fun, friendly and relaxed with no pressure or expectations. You are welcome exactly as you are. You are enough. Always.
The first half of your class is full of signing, singing and sensory activities. By learning the signs through song, it makes them easy to remember and a lot more fun for babies and parents too.
We include interactive sensory elements in our classes too, such as finding our faces with mirrors or developing our eye tracking and perception with bubbles! We always celebrate our new signing stories in the group which is a great encouragement and our clever babies can earn their own certificates!
The second half of the class is a social and support time. We have toys for your babies to play with, and hot and cold drinks with biscuits for the adults! Our social time is a chance to chat and meet other local parents and realise that perhaps you are not the only one going through some of the trials of parenthood! If you manage to have a hot drink for the first time that week and maybe find your ‘village’ whilst you drink it then it is win win!
