Hi, I’m Natalie TinyTalk Teacher in Basingstoke and Tadley area of North Hampshire and West Berkshire area. I am taking a break from teaching at the moment, but I am still checking my emails so if you are interested in learning Baby Signing drop me a message for up to date information on when classes will return.
I started TinyTalk classes with my oldest daughter Evie when she was around 4 months old, I learnt that babies
are able to communicate using sign language much earlier than they are able to speak, a fact that I found intriguing. Evie started to sign around 6-7 months. When Evie started to comfortably talk at the age of 2, she was signing well over 150 signs and able to communicate with us in much more depth than if she hadn't been taught to sign. It also helped in those early toddler years when she was able to talk but her sounds hadn't quite developed.
I enjoyed learning something new while on maternity leave and would teach my husband what I had learnt in classes and he loved being able to communicate with Evie too. Evie loved singing our favourite songs in class while practising our signs, listening to a story read by someone else and participating in sensory activities, bubbles and flashy balls were a firm favourite. The interactive nature of the classes really draws you in and the songs are catchy. It's a gentle way to learn a new skill, with lots of repetition so you get the chance to really drive those new signs in. Each class consists of 30-40 minutes of singing songs while practising signs, a sensory activity and playing with musical instruments.
TinyTalk baby classes offered me more than just an activity too. I suffered from postnatal depression after Evie was born and the second part of each class whilst I was presented with a HOT cup of tea and a biscuit I was able to have some adult conversation with other like-minded parents, this provided invaluable support and has led to lasting friendships.
I am looking forward to meeting you at TinyTalk baby classes and sharing this skill with you and your little ones in the one hour classes in a clean and comfortable setting, using props and sensory items to enhance the class during the first half hour and having refreshments, play and social time in the second half of the class.
When my son, Artie was born in 2020 we were in the middle of lockdown, so I was unable to join any baby classes with him and didn't get the same chances to make those friendships. TinyTalk classes really are a great way to find a community and make some friends with similar aged children as you meet the same parents each week and as the term goes on these friendships really do grow.
