We started TinyTalk classes when my daughter, Jasmine, was about 6 months old. After only a few classes I was taken in by the ethos, friendly approach, and the learning potential. I’ve always wanted to learn BSL, so taking Jas to signing classes seemed like a great excuse to get started. What I didn’t anticipate was that she would take to it like a duck to water, and that it would really
improve not only our communication, but also our relationship. I can honestly say that signing changed my way of being with her, how I parent her. It wasn’t just about her being able to tell me what she needs- it has helped me to see the world through her eyes, and has created a stronger bond between us.
Jasmine’s almost 3 now, and we still sign all the time! As her speech has developed it has been so useful to have signing to fall back on when I can’t understand what she’s saying, and her face still lights up with joy and pride when I finally get it!
TinyTalk Baby Signing uses BSL signs and gestures, and the classes are suitable from birth to 2 years old. They are fun and relaxed classes where you can join in as much or as little as you want- we know it’s hard being a new parent whether it’s your first or 5th, and there is no pressure from our side!
Babies have so much to say, and TinyTalk can help you and your baby communicate before they can talk- How amazing is that?! Being able to sign can help to alleviate frustration, because they are able to tell you what they need and how they are feeling, which takes away a lot of the guessing that comes with trying to interpret their cries and gurgles. It gives them a voice,the ability to express themselves and feel heard and understood, and also gives you an incredible insight into your baby’s mind as they begin to explore this big new world!
As a new parent, having a community of friendly people around you, a chance to get out and talk to other adults & have a laugh and a rant, it just helps to feel human again. Plus you’re learning a valuable skill, having a good sing along, and get a cuppa and biscuit too!
Classes are an hour long, and are split into two parts- First half we have fun interacting with the babies and introducing signs through singing songs & rhymes. There are weekly themes such as family, pets, bedtime etc, to give you the signs you need in your everyday life. There are also sensory activities which stimulate your baby’s senses and help to develop their awareness and sensory skills. The second part is social time for you and your little ones. Relax with a cuppa and a biscuit whilst getting to know the other parents, have a chat and a laugh, share the highs and the lows, and feel more like you again. All whilst the babies enjoy social playtime and do some serious baby socialising themselves!

Favourite Film:Love Actually- it's a classic!
Pet Hate:Rudeness- there's just no need!
Secret Passion:Dancing, although it's been a while! And animals, but that's not that secret!
I most admire:Kindness and compassion
I love baby signing because:it's amazing to be able to communicate with your little one before they can talk, and see the world through their eyes! It gives them a voice when they have so much to say!
