Hello and welcome to TinyTalk Angus and The Mearns! My name is Gayna and this is my TinyTalker Logan. I teach baby and toddler signing classes in South Aberdeenshire and Angus, currently with classes in Laurencekirk, Montrose, Marykirk and Gourdon.
I worked with adults with profound physical and learning disabilities for 9 years. During this time I learnt
to sign and saw the ability for clients who had no verbal skills to communicate ensuring their needs and wants were understood. This was unbelievably rewarding. Whilst on maternity leave I was offered voluntary severance and it seemed like a wonderful opportunity for a change of career. TinyTalk fitted the bill perfectly, I could work around my son using my skill set in another very rewarding way. The youngest babies to sign at my classes are Nathan and Eliza who both signed 'milk' just before they were 4 months old! By 20 months Logan could sign well over 100 signs, sometimes constructing little dialogues using signs! What I love especially is that he made specific vocalisations for each word he signed as if he was trying to say the word too! I am thrilled to be nominated for Most Outstanding Activity Leader for the Under 5's category in What's on for Little Ones Awards 2011 in my first year as a TinyTalk teacher and then again in 2012 and 2013!
In each of our 1 hour baby signing classes...
You and your baby will learn a number of baby signs for useful everyday words and phrases - allowing you to talk to your baby for the first time by baby signing.
You'll spend time singing favourite nursery rhymes and action songs. Apart from learning baby signing, your baby will also have time to play with a variety of toys - whilst the mums relax with coffee and chocolate biscuits!
Signing with your baby can help baby communicate before verbal speech reducing frustrations. Baby signing encourages verbal speech.
Our fantastic fun Toddler Talk classes focus much more on developing early speech. The classes are for walking children age 18 months upto 3 years. The classes are lively, stimulating and sometimes a bit noisy! With songs, rhymes, stories and imaginative play we cover all the topics that toddlers love. We still use sign to support growing vocabularies, but it is not necessary to have done the baby signing classes to enjoy the Toddler classes.
Most importantly classes are relaxed and fun! Come along and enjoy a baby/toddler group with a difference.
