– Your baby signing teacher. I have one mini signer of my own, Charlie, who is 4.
Charlie and I started attending baby signing classes in South Derby when he was 6 months old and we were hooked from day one! Charlie's first signs included milk, food and duck and it was so exciting to be able to communicate with each other from such a young age. As the months went on, our signing vocabulary grew together and I just adored the bond this brought to us. Signing hubby got in on the act too and before we knew it we were a signing family! Charlie could tell us when he’d spotted a dog, or an aeroplane, or if he wanted to go to the park. Signing proved very helpful within our daily routine too. It often meant we could avoid frustration by explaining what was happening. At bedtime Charlie would often ask for ‘more playing’ but I could explain it was ‘bedtime’ and we would do ‘more playing’ when we ‘wakeup’!
Signing from a young age gives your baby the confidence to communicate and reassures them of their understanding of the world. Signing is always used alongside the spoken word which often support early verbal communication.
As well as being educational – TinyTalk classes are so much fun! The 1hr class is split into two halves. During the first half we do signing, singing and sensory activities all structured around a weekly theme. The themes vary regularly, so we're always learning something fresh and new. We use lots of fun props to bring our songs to life and stimulate your baby’s imagination! The second half of our class is social time for babies and carers. There are refreshments provided for everyone (some of us may not have had a hot cup of tea in a very long time indeed!), and lots of fun toys for your babies to play with. This social time is great for meeting other mums and dads in the area and sharing stories (stresses and successes!).
I currently run TinyTalk baby signing classes in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Castle Donington and Chellaston.
So come and join us – I would love to share the magic of TinyTalk with you and your baby!
