I really believed in sign language for babies. It made logical sense to me, research proved it and my first hand experience at seeing a friend's baby use it successfully before being able to talk was the ultimate proof for me. Add that with a fun activity to take part in with my little one, using my existing BSL skills and getting the rest of the family involved, I decided to sign up to the TinyTalk classes.
We loved it and the real turning point was when Jack went from just understanding the signs, to actually using them himself from when he was around 9 months. By the age of 18mths I had lost count of how many signs he knew (probably most of the 150 TinyTalk signs). I honestly cannot remember a time with him that we weren't communicating with and understanding each other.
Jack is now at school and TinyTalk for him is a distant memory (although he still remembers a lot of the signs and occasionally uses them in songs, when he knows I can't hear him or when showing off to other babies). I believe it has really helped with his speech development and understanding of language.
Fate, opportunity, good timing? Call it what you will but when I got the chance to take on the Nottingham Central TinyTalk classes back in 2011, I decided to pack up my existing job and go for it. I am dedicated to sharing my passion and learning with other families and that's why I believe you'll enjoy these classes.

I love baby signing because:I was able to understand my boy's needs before he could speak. Now it's great to see the joy and pride on other parents / carers faces when their baby starts to sign.
Meet my Mini Teacher, Adele Miles
I have been a TinyTalk Teacher for 5 years now and deliver both Baby Signing & Toddler Talking classes for Nottingham Central. It is so rewarding to share in so many families signing journeys with their little ones and see them grow & develop from Tiny Babies to Toddlers heading off to Nursery School.
I first fell in love with the TinyTalk Classes and Baby signing back in 2010 when I attended sessions with my oldest boy Edward. We both loved going to TinyTalk and, having heard all the great benefits of baby signing, I was very keen to give it a go. I will never forget the moment when Edward did his first clear sign of bird in the garden, I turned around and there it was sitting on the fence. At that point my husband and I were hooked and likewise once Edward had received a great reaction to his first sign, he went on to sign more and more. Not only was it exciting each time he signed, but it meant he could tell us what he could see or what he wanted or needed. It was amazing to be able to have conversations before he could speak.
I didn’t have to think twice about whether to use baby sign language or attend TinyTalk classes when my little girl Eleanor came along. She has also been a signing superstar and Edward and Eleanor used a combination of sign language and words to talk to each together. I was able to attend TinyTalk Toddler classes with Eleanor. She has absolutely loved them and in addition to learning signs and words, she has also developed some great skills such as how to share, tidy up, wait a moment and how to sit still to listen to a story book or activity.
Both my children’s speech developed extremely well, which I truly believe was aided by the use of baby sign language which focuses on teaching the sign and the word. Having signing knowledge also allowed my children to sign if they couldn’t say or remember the word, reducing frustrations. Having used sign language with my little ones, I cannot image life without it.
It is fantastic that I now have the opportunity to share my passion by being a TinyTalk teacher.
