Hello and welcome to TinyTalk Basingstoke!

I am Victoria, your local TinyTalk teacher and Mum to Oliver (aged 4) and Sam (aged 22 months). I offer weekly Baby Signing Classes in Basingstoke and the surrounding areas.

Having read about the benefits of baby signing when I was pregnant with Sam, I was keen to attend baby signing classes once he was born.

I started to sign with Sam when he was 4 months old and he did his first meaningful sign ‘milk’ at 9 months. By 13 months old, Sam had a signing vocabulary of 30 – 40 signs with some of his favourites being milk, more, car, bird, all gone & cold. I really feel that signing has helped us to avoid the frustration many babies feel when they try to communicate but we adults are unable to understand them. Apart from being able to tell me when he was thirsty or hungry, he was also able to let me know when he wanted to listen to music or even if he wanted more stories at bedtime! Signing has also allowed me to gain an insight into what he is thinking or looking at.

I run weekly classes at Christ Church, Chineham and Hatch Warren Community Centre. Classes consist of ½ hour singing popular nursery rhymes and action songs with appropriate signs followed by ½ hour social time. This is when the babies can interact and play with toys whilst the adults enjoy a well-earned drink and chocolate biscuit (or two!). This is also the perfect time to ask questions or for new signs.
