Hello and welcome to TinyTalk baby signing for Ripley, Heanor, Alfreton & Ilkeston. I'm Trish and I have been a TinyTalk teacher since September 2009. I am currently running baby signing classes in Heanor on Thursday mornings and Alfreton on Friday mornings. The classes are also easily accesible from Ripley, Codnor, Denby Village,and Ilkeston. and I am proud to be part of an amazing team of teachers here in the East Midlands and internationally. We have a fantastic time and the
groups are very friendly. I can also train child care professionals how to use baby signing as well as offering a full training programme for Nurseries.
I learnt British Sign Language (BSL) a long time ago but when I heard that there were classes where you could learn baby signing and I was wanting to do an activity with my then 4 month old little boy I couldn't wait to join. As soon as we started the class both my son and I LOVED it and I began to think that I would like to teach other families so I enquired about how to become a teacher and the rest as they say is history! We continued to attend a class and Matthew did his first sign 'more' (referring to yoghurt) at just 7 and a half months. I was amazed and extremely proud. How clever was my baby communicating at such a young age! The signs soon started coming thick and fast and I was thrilled how he could communicate to me his needs, e.g when he wanted milk, felt ill, hot or cold or just wanted a cuddle, but also when he had spotted things when we were out and about such as seeing a dog or a bus.
Each class consists of half an hour of singing and signing along to popular nursery rhymes and we use plenty of props, puppets, and musical instruments to keep the babies interested. The second half of the class is social time where the adults get to have a well earned cuppa and biscuits while the babies relax and play with lots of toys and get to know their new friends. It is a great chance for you to meet other families with young babies and have some adult company and at the same time you will be learning a fantastic skill to help you and your little one communicate before they can talk.

It shows just how clever babies are and that they want to communicate. It is an insight into their world and what they are thinking. It significantly helps reduce frustrations.
