Hello and Welcome to TinyTalk Fareham & Gosport! My name is Sara, your local TinyTalk teacher, BSL signer (level 2 - results pending) and mum of two boys, Ben and Jack.

I first heard about baby signing when I had just started a BSL Level 1 course at evening classes. I was on maternity leave after having Jack, and I thought that being able to communicate with him before he could speak was a fantastic idea. I thought Jack and I would give it a try! I started using some basic signs with Jack and looked for a local class to take him to. I couldn’t find one that fitted in to our needs, so I decided to start my own! I did my TinyTalk teacher training in July 2008, and it has been a real pleasure to meet so many lovely parents and babies and share the joys and benefits of baby signing since then.

Signing with Jack helped me to identify his needs quickly and it also allowed me to gain an insight into what he was thinking or trying to communicate to me before he could talk. I also got an insight in to his sense of humour that I might otherwise never have known about!

Jack's speech is now really taking off but his signs still help us, and the rest of our family, to identify some words that are still unclear.

TinyTalk classes are one hour long. During the first half we sing popular nursery rhymes and action songs with appropriate signs, followed by social time. This is a chance for the adults to chat and relax with a hot drink and a chocolate biscuit (or two!) while the babies socialise and play with toys. This is also the perfect opportunity to ask questions, pick up some tips or ask about extra signs.
