Hello and welcome to TinyTalk Wrexham, Llangollen and North Shropshire.

I’m Nicky your local TinyTalk teacher I’m also mum to TinyTalkers Jack (10), Daniel (3), Owen (2) and Alfie (9 months) and stepmum to Olivia (7). Prior to becoming a TinyTalk teacher I was a Primary School Teacher, teaching children from nursery through to Year 6!

I first read about baby signing when Jack was 6 months old. I thought it sounded wonderful that my son would be able to tell me what he wanted before he could speak, but back then there weren't any classes available only text books so we missed the opportunity! When my second child Daniel came along in 2008 I was determined to sign with him and luckily TinyTalk was around this time to help. I attended a local class in nearby Broughton and we loved it...

At 15 months Daniel had a signing vocabulary of over 30 signs with favourites being milk, more, all gone, spider and ssshhh! Baby signing helped us avoid the frustration babies feel when they try to communicate and we adults are unable to understand them. He could tell me when he was thirsty or hungry or when he was tired. He could even say ’please’ when he wanted something and thank you when he recieved it!

I started signing to Owen from day 3, with 'milk’ being the first sign. It was very exciting when he made his first sign 'milk' at 7 months old, and by 11 months old he was signing 'all gone', 'bye' and 'thank you' and now at 2 years old his speech is amazing.

Using simple gestures and signs, babies as young as 6 months can tell you that they want milk or that they have seen a bird! As well as reducing frustration this can offer you a wonderful and fascinating insight into your baby's world.

TinyTalk classes are an hour long, starting with signing and singing to well known nursery rhymes and actions songs. Followed by the social time -playtime for the babies and chat time for the mums (refreshments provided). The classes are held in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. The mums love the hot drink that's made for them, as well as the chocolate biscuits that are available!

Social time is a great way to meet other mums and ask any questions you have on baby signing. Signing cards given out each week help you to remember what you have learnt so you can share it with your family.
