Welcome to the TinyTalk classes of Lisa Chung-How

Click to view our class times""Hello and Welcome to TinyTalk Cambridge! I am Lisa, your local TinyTalk teacher, BSL signer (level 1) and mum to two TinyTalkers, Ben (4) and Zach (14 months).

I first heard about baby signing when Ben was a newborn and thought that being able to communicate with my baby before he could speak was a fantastic idea. I started using some basic signs with Ben and looked for a local class to take him to but I ""couldn’t find any so I decided to start my own! That was over 3 years ago and it has been a real pleasure to meet so many lovely parents and babies and share the joys and benefits of baby signing.

Signing with Ben helped me to identify his needs quickly and it also allowed me to gain an insight into what he was thinking or trying to communicate to me, be it the bird on the Cornflakes packet or the plants in the ceiling at the Grafton Centre! I’ve included a couple of our favourite TinyTalker moments on my Scrapbook page so please do take a look.

Now with Zach, we are again experiencing the excitement of his first signs and Ben is having lots of fun signing with his little brother too.

Also as we are bringing the boys up to be bilingual, my husband uses the same signs but speaks in French and we really feel that signing has helped Ben and Zach to have a better understanding of the two languages from a young age.

TinyTalk classes are 1 hour long starting with ½ hour of singing popular nursery rhymes and action songs with appropriate signs followed by ½ hour social time. This is a chance for the adults to chat and relax with a hot drink and a chocolate biscuit (or two!) while the babies socialise and play with toys. This is also the perfect opportunity to ask questions or for new signs.
