|Welcome to the TinyTalk classes of Jen Nolan
Hello Iím Jen, your local South Manchester TinyTalk teacher, and mum to two boys, Theo and Eric. |
I was first introduced to baby sign language through my sister, who took my nephew to TinyTalk classes, back in 2008. He was a fantastic little signer. She got the whole family involved in signing with him and he was able to communicate really well before he could talk, through the magic of sign! She signed with her other children
since then and when I had my little boy Theo, in 2015, I knew immediately that I wanted to teach him to sign. We took him to TinyTalk classes from 4 months old and loved it - loved the classes, loved the social time and absolutely adored it when he actually started to sign to us!! He got to about 70 signs before his speech took over, which was just so helpful to us in our day-to-day lives. It really amazed me that he could tell me what he wanted, needed or what was thinking, before he was able to verbalise it. The sense of reward was incredible and the look in his eyes when he did a new sign and I knew what he is trying to say to me made my heart melt.
I therefore couldnít resist when the opportunity arose to teach TinyTalk classes, and pass on the amazing benefits and the sense of pure joy that I have had from our signing journey so far. I just wish more parents knew about it!!
A TinyTalk class is an hour long, covering a different theme every week. Core signs are incorporated into the first half an hour of songs and sensory activities. The second half is social time where babies can play (toys provided) and parents can enjoy a chat and a much deserved hot drink and a biscuit (also provided). We currently run classes across South Manchester, in Altrincham, Chorlton, Didsbury, Sale, Withington and Urmston.
We also run a toddler class where we have lots of energetic fun; toddlers are given the encouragement to communicate, whether that be through signing or speech (no prior signing experience required!), whilst having fun singing action songs, sharing great books, playing with puppets, props, percussion instruments and playing parachute and lycra games. Classes are full of energy and interaction from your toddler and you too! Each week we follow a theme, such as colours, counting, shapes, opposites, our feelings, minibeasts we find in the garden, the clothes we wear, how we get around etc. We encourage your toddler to share, pass & put away to help teach them key pre-school skills.
Please contact me to find out more about TinyTalk, and how you can join in the signing fun.
We hope to see you soon.

Mini Teacher 1:
My name is Sam and I'm Mum to Tilly and Tabitha.
I started attending Tiny Talk classes when Tabs was 3 months old and when she made her first sign, I was amazed and delighted. Her favourite sign was "biscuit" and mine too. We loved the class social time, and TinyTalk always had the best biscuits. My family all learnt the signs, and my sister then joined the classes with her two boys.
TinyTalk has helped us all communicate and I still get so excited when a baby learns a new sign in class. They are so clever.
Mini Teacher 2: Harriet Pendlebury
Hi Iím Harriet and Iíve got two girls - Ailsa and Lois. I went to TinyTalk from when my eldest was 4 months old, and we carried on right through to the Toddler class (and we brought baby Lois along too!).
Its safe to say I was hooked from the first class. The social time was invaluable getting a regular chance to just chat with other mums as our babies played. As the weeks went by, it was so exciting seeing my daughter start to sign, and the thrill she got from being able to communicate with us was obvious. I really believe it helped ease her frustration. It was also very cute to walk through the park and to find out the animals she could see from her buggy. She would suddenly start signing Ďbirdí and she would have spotted a bird I hadn't even noticed. She now teaches her little sister the signs too! It seemed the perfect next step to start teaching TinyTalk and I feel really privileged to support other parents to bond and communicate with their babies in a fun and relaxed environment. I look forward to meeting you and your babies in classÖ!
