|Welcome to the TinyTalk classes of Helen Hine
Hello and welcome to TinyTalk Mid-Bedfordshire! My name is Helen and I'm your local TinyTalk teacher and mum to two TinyTalkers, Katheryn who is 3 and Hattie aged 14 months.|
While I was pregnant with Katheryn a colleague who had a one year old daughter regularly told me how amazing TinyTalk baby signing classes were. Months later when Katheryn was about 6 months old, I heard someone mention TinyTalk and I remembered those conversations. I gave the lovely
Fran Rolfe (teacher for TinyTalk Mid-Bedfordshire at the time) a call and she had space starting in the Spring term. Katheryn was 8 months old when she started classes and her first sign came a month later, when she asked me for milk. I can't explain how excited I was. From that moment TinyTalk has opened up a world of communication between me and my children and the rest of our family. By 18 months old Katheryn was signing over 100 signs and Hattie who currently attends classes with me is signing around 50 signs.
When the opportunity to take over teaching the baby signing classes came about, I jumped at the chance. Having attended TinyTalk classes for 3 years I feel really passionate about it. Not only the signing but the quality time you get to spend with your baby and the bond that this communication brings.
Signing is truly a window into your baby's world. I love how Hattie can tell me all the things she notices during the day, things that I would never think twice about. Birds flying over head, the moon still being up in the sky in the morning, the picture of a ladybird on my mug of coffee. With Katheryn I believe signing helped reduce her frustrations right through her toddler stage and has without a doubt encouraged her communication and speech.
The 1 hour signing class is broken into two parts. During the first 30 minutes you and your baby will learn a number of signs for useful everyday words and phrases through singing popular nursery rhymes and action songs, reading books, sensory activities and using instruments. The second half is social time and your baby will have time to play with a variety of toys whilst the adults relax with a drink and a chocolate biscuit!
Please let me know if you would like to come along and I can reserve you a space. You can pay-as-you-go each week, or opt to pre-pay for classes, which reduces the price slightly and is still fully flexible. Please get in touch if you have any questions.
I am also thrilled to have Fran Rolfe as my Mini Teacher taking the TinyTalk Toddler classes for the Spring term to complement my Baby signing classes. Toddler classes enable children to continue to enjoy signing as we encourage their developing speech. Please get in touch for more details if you are interested in coming along.
Signing has been such an important part of our family life. I hope you will find it as enjoyable and rewarding as we do.
Mini Teacher 1: Fran Rolfe
Hi I am Fran.
After 8 years of loving teaching TinyTalk classes I'm taking a step back and only teaching one toddler class this term. This is so I can focus my attention on my own TinyTalkers Lillian and Nathan (aged 9 and 7 years) who will be joining me at classes from time to time :-)
I have seen how learning to sign to your child and being able to communicate with them is vital for a good relationship and a happy family life. It is amazing what children will say if you give them the tools to do so, it allows you to understand them and produces a closer bond. Parents often say TinyTalk has been the best thing they ever did with their baby.
I hope you enjoy it as much as we have, Fran xx
