| Welcome to the TinyTalk classes of Fran Rolfe |
Hello and welcome to my TinyTalk signing classes! I'm Fran, your local TinyTalk teacher currently running baby signing classes in Arlesey, Campton and Broom Village Halls. I have two children; Lillian (aged 5) and Nathan (aged 3) who were both fantastic TinyTalkers. They both could sign over 100 signs before they could speak and it enriched our family life in so many ways. Signing was so useful when I didn't understand what my babies wanted.
It reduced their frustration and temper tantrums! But more than that it was FUN! We played loads of games and grew together. It gave me a window into what they were thinking and the way they saw the world. It was fascinating! Lillian always thought Daddy was 'hiding' when he went to work and set off looking for him! Nathan would deliberately give me a wrong answer to my question and then sign 'cheeky'! Now they are a little older I can see how signing has helped them to develop into confident, observant, expressive little people. We signed to Nathan from birth, and he started signing at 5 months old, telling me that he needed a 'nappy' change! I was amazed that someone so young wanted to communicate with us. He started coming to classes when he was only 7 weeks old, and loved them so much. The question I am most asked is 'will signing delay a child from speaking?' The answer is definitely 'NO!' Signing intensively teaches vocabulary and concepts, giving your child tools to use when they are ready to speak. We always say the word as we sign, and encourage babies to make sounds. Signing encourages a child to communicate, just as crawling encourages a child towards walking. My two are proof that signing definitely brings on a childs speech! My classes are half an hour of teaching signs and singing, reading books, playing games and instruments, then half an hour of social time with refreshments. The babies love it and I'm sure you will too. Please let me know if you would like to come along and I can reserve you a space. You can pay-as-you-go each week, or opt to pre-pay for classes, which reduces the price slightly and is still fully flexible. Please get in touch if you have any questions. Signing has been such an important part of our family life. I hope you will find it as enjoyable and rewarding as we do.
