I started baby signing classes with my daughter when she was 9 weeks old and we loved them – so much so that at 3 years old she still comes to the Dumfries class with me and ‘helps’ me teach! I used the signs regularly at home with her and when we were out for walks and overtime she was able to recognise and then use most of the animal signs and I quickly learnt not to argue with her or question her when she signed that she had seen a dog or a cat as she usually had! She also used the signs for drink and food and sleep regularly and so I had no doubt about what she wanted to do. I feel that teaching Gemma to sign allowed her to show me what she saw in her surroundings, what interested her and to let me know what she was feeling. Communication is the most important tool we have and it is never too early to help our children feel that what they have to communicate to us is valuable and interesting.

I started teaching TinyTalk Baby Signing classes in January 2011 and I love it. It is so satisfying to see the babies develop and to hear the wonderful stories of what their first signs are and how it helps make life easier.
