Mini Teacher 1:
Hi I’m Sandy, mum to 2 beautiful daughters including TinyTalker Georgia who is 25 months old.
I decided to use baby sign language with Georgia having heard about the amazing results, I just couldn't believe how fantastic it would be that she could communicate with me. I was absolutely sold on the idea and started attending Catherine's classes. She did her first sign "milk" shortly after joining.
I have found signing invaluable, as it has really helped Georgia who has severe food allergies to understand and accept that she cannot have certain foods from a very early age and eased her frustration as she was able to sign what she wanted, needed or could see. She’s a happy, very energetic girl and I believe that this is in part due to the fact that she can communicate well with us and be understood. She loves to sign with her big sister (Imogen 7, who has taken a keen interest in learning sign) and they have such a special bond because of it.
Georgia is constantly amazing me by using signs and some I haven’t used that much with her – and by how quickly she is now picking them up, she is now signing 160 signs!. It has been absolutely magical experience being able to communicate with her from such an early age. An experience I am really sad to have not had with Imogen.
One of my favourite signing memories with Georgia when she was 15months old after an afternoon with Nana, during bedtime cuddles with me she was able to sign to me that they saw a butterfly in the garden and it was sat on a flower, so precious that she was able to share with me what she was thinking about.
I feel very passionately that every parent should be given the opportunity to learn these fantastic skills.
I look forward to welcoming you and your little one to TinyTalk.
Mini Teacher 2: Nicola Lewis
Hello, I'm Nicola and I joined the team after taking my daughter Olivia to Catherine’s classes. Olivia is now 15 months old and absolutely loves signing. She can tell me when she wants milk, a drink, food, and more, which is so so useful as it takes away any uncertainty.
My favourite sign has to be *mummy*. It absolutely warms your heart when you can see that they know who you are. She can say ‘muma’ now, but still signs along as she’s saying it.
There was one moment where I realised baby signing really could be life changing. At around seven months Olivia had been eating strawberries when she started to gag. I thought nothing of it at first as she did that quite a lot, but then something didn’t seem quite right. She signed for milk, so I tried to breastfeed her - but she couldn’t latch. She kept trying and trying, all the while signing *milk* *milk* *milk* but she just couldn’t do it. I knew something was wrong so we treated her as if she was choking, and up came half a mushy strawberry!! If she hadn’t been able to tell me that she really did want milk, I probably would have thought that she was just playing. Instead we managed to stop her partially blocked airway from getting any more serious and I am eternally grateful to Catherine and Tiny Talk for that!
At the lessons you will have so much fun whilst learning a life skill for your family, you really can’t beat it!
