Hello! I’m Beth and these are my TinyTalkers Lucy and Sam. We’ve been attending TinyTalk classes since Lucy was 6 months old, and we’ve loved it! I knew I wanted to do baby sign with my children when Lucy was born, and the TinyTalk classes were local and sounded like fun. I was right! Lucy loved the singing and signing, and the tea and biscuit time was great as well!
Lucy signed milk for the first time at 7 1/2 months - and didn't sign anything else until she was 10 months... After that we had 5 or 6 signs, including 'mummy', 'daddy' and 'more', until she was about 14 months - when we had a signing explosion. She went from using 5 or 6 signs to using 5 or 6 new signs each week. It was amazing to see her confidence grow as she found she could express herself and tell me and Daddy (and Grandma and whoever else was there!) about what she was thinking and feeling and seeing. We finished going to TinyTalk's baby classes when I had Sam, and started going to TinyTalk Toddlers when he was about 4 months old. It was great being able to take them both - TinyTalk fees are per family. Sam has loved the classes too. His first sign was 'book' - as a former English teacher was I ever proud!! But he waited until 14 months to show us what he can do - a great lesson for me in the necessity of being consistent in teaching signing to your little ones! Now, at almost 2, he's using over 50 signs and is adding new ones all the time.
Each TinyTalk class is an hour long, with 30 minutes of singing and signing nursery rhymes followed by 30 minutes of social time when I make you a cup of tea (and get you a chocolate biscuit!) while your child has the opportunity to play with a variety of toys and socialise with other children. It gives you a chance to bond with your child as well as chat with other like-minded parents and carers.
I'm currently running two baby signing classes, one in Wokingham, Berkshire at St Paul's church centre, and one in Finchampstead at St James Church centre. Starting in April 2012, I will also be running a Toddler class at Sindlesham Baptist Church in Sindlesham. Please get in touch to enquire about space in these classes.
Baby sign language has made such a difference in our family. Why not come along and see if it’s right for yours too?
To celebrate TinyTalk turning 10, we're giving those families new to TinyTalk a chance to try us out - for free! Go to tinytalk.co.uk/free to register for your free class now!
