Hello and Welcome to my TinyTalk Baby Signing Classes! I’m Maria, your local TinyTalk teacher running classes in Norwich, Wymondham, Thetford, Attleborough, Barnham Broom & Toftwood near Dereham. I also run classes for SureStart Children’s centres in various locations. I am a BSL signer (level 2) and mum to three children, Tonita (8), Rowan (6) and my TinyTalker Jenson (4).

I first found out about TinyTalk baby signing from the ‘good morning’ television programme, where I saw Katie Mayne the founder of TinyTalk talking about baby signing. Jenson was my third child so I knew how hard it was trying to work out what babies were trying to tell us. I thought how fantastic it must be to communicate & understand my baby before he could speak. I signed up to be a TinyTalk teacher in Norfolk and over 4 years later have not looked back! I have a fantastic job! I get to meet so many lovely parents & carers; I love the interaction with the babies and still get so much pleasure every time I see them sign, and most of all its fun!

Signing with Jenson was really useful to identify his needs quickly; his first sign at 7 months was milk, quickly followed by more! But what I think was really great was knowing what he found interesting, he could tell me when he saw a bird, an aeroplane or even the moon on a sunny day, he would notice things us adults often took for granted, it was a window into his mind.

TinyTalk baby signing classes are 1 hour long starting with ½ hour of singing popular nursery rhymes and action songs with appropriate baby signs based on the week’s theme such as mealtime signs or animal signs. This is followed by ½ hour social time which is equally important, a chance for the adults to chat and relax with refreshments and a chocolate biscuit (or two!) while the babies socialise and play with toys. This is also the perfect opportunity to ask questions or for new signs.
