Welcome to TinyTalk Baby Signing classes in Basingstoke.
Hi my name is Abi and I live here with my husband and our daughter.
As Jessica is now 7, she cannot attend classes, so instead I bring Elliot bear with me.
I am CRB checked, and I have just completed and passed my British Sign Language (BSL) level 1.
Baby Signing is a form of pre-verbal communication which will allow you to understand your baby before they can talk. You will be so thrilled and proud when your baby makes that first sign! Baby signing is also a great way to bond with your baby.
Imagine your baby being able to sign to you what they can see? Did you ever imagine how exciting that bird they can see from their buggy might be to them?
I love teaching the classes, and supporting the families who come, and I absolutely love it when some of my experienced TinyTalker’s sign to me during class, for example signing “thank you” when I give them a sticker. Thank you is always an impressive sign for use in-front of families and friends!
The weekly class lasts for one hour, the first half is the learning, the signs are taught through popular nursery rhymes, songs and poems. I use props and puppets to emphasize the signs and stimulate the babies.
We have a broad range of songs to sing including action songs for variety and excitement for the babies (and the parents!) We also sing quieter gentler songs for calming and baby bonding.
Then we have the "walk about songs" where we can march, skip and do the “hokey cokey”!!
Then every third week we share a signed book time, again another tool to teach you as the parents how to start introducing the signs at home.
The second half of the class is the social time, a chance for you to chat to like minded parents over a tea or coffee and a chocolate biscuit while the babies play, all toys provided.
